Remote controls are the easiest and most practical way to operate your automated gates.

They allow you to open and close your gates by simply pressing a button on a key fob transmitter that you keep on your person or in your car.

This sends a signal to a receiver, which then passes on an instruction to the gate control panel.

The gate will then open or close accordingly.

Electric gate transmitters

There are two radio frequencies in the UK which gate remote systems are allowed to operate on, so there's no chance of it interfering with other remotely-operated systems.

Wear and tear, prompted by repeated use, does sometimes catch up with gate remote transmitters.

In some cases, these may need to be replaced.

We're often asked how easy it is to do so, and the answer depends on a few different factors which we look at below.

Gate Remote Systems Are Not Universal

If they were, it would be easy for criminals to purchase a cheap transmitter and use it to gain access.

Each remote can have a different coding system, with codes that need to match those of a receiver for the command to work.

Some send a fixed code, while others send codes that change, making them much more difficult to copy.

What You Can Do If Your Gate Remote System Stops Working

Fortunately, in most cases it's relatively straightforward and inexpensive to replace a gate remote.

If you know the model of yours, and it's still in production, you should be able to purchase a direct replacement.

If your remote is relatively new, this shouldn't be too much of problem.

Sometimes manufacturers discontinue a particular model, but replace it with a new one that will operate the now-obsolete original.

If it is obsolete because your remote will be on an older and now illegal frequency. Therefore you will have to replace the receiver with a new one and get new remote controls.

There are different processes to clone existing remotes so it's best to contact us for advice on your particular remotes.

If your system has had a long life, your remote stops working and it can't be replaced, it's not the end of your gates.

It's a relatively easy and inexpensive job to have a new receiver fitted complete with remote transmitters.
